CO-CREATOR THomAS TAW – TAKES TIME OUT FROM HIS BUSY LONDON SALON TO SHARE HIS INSIDER TIPS

BACk-TO-BACK FASHION SHOOTS CAN LEAVE MODELS WITH DRY AND DAMAGED HAIR– WHAT CAN SUNSILK WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD LEARN FROM SUNSILK’s damage expert TO ACHIEVE BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY HAIR?

Q: Tom, cutting- edge hair styles have always been at the forefront of world fashion. What effect does weeks of overstyling, heat damage and product build up have on models’ hair, can this cause long lasting damage?

TT: The biggest backstage culprit causing damage to a model’s hair is generally the hairdresser! Excessive use of heat tools, such as hairdryers, tongs and irons and styling products that are full of alcohol, and the execution of aggressive styling techniques upon the model’s hair all contribute towards distressed locks

Q: What are a model’s biggest complaints about her hair?

TT: Models generally complain about their hair feeling dry and lifeless and the constant breakage that occurs. When working with Sunsilk we’ve made this issue one of our top priorities – we’ve concocted a recipe that contains the exclusive ingredient bio keratin which provides a deep repair for damaged hair

Q. If you’re styling a model who has seriously dry hair – do you have any quick fix solutions?

TT: Make sure you quickly bring back what the hair has lost, by nourishing it. But dry and damaged hair usually needs more than quick fixes, as it takes commitment to give it that extra care

Q. If you could give a catwalk model two pieces of hair advice, what would they be?

TT: Firstly, beauty starts on the inside – eat healthily and keep your body hydrated and secondly, make sure you look after your hair when you are not working by using regular conditioning treatments

Q. How can girls prevent damage from occurring?

TT: It is almost impossible to avoid damage completely, modern lifestyles, heat appliances and fashionable styles need maintenance. Choosing the right products can be as important as choosing the right style. When working with Sunsilk on my Damage Reconstruction range, we wanted to create a product that would dramatically improve hair texture by penetrating deeper and filling damaged cracks layer by layer, strand by strand. To prevent significant damage from occurring you need to use the rights products – try my range and you’ll see and feel the difference

Q. How often should girls use a conditioning treatment at home and what ingredients should it contain?

TT: If you have dry hair – at least once a week. As for ingredients, that all depends on what your hair needs the most – weak hair needs strength from protein, dry hair needs softness from moisture. Identify what your hair needs and treat yourself!

Q. Should you change your conditioning treatment regularly to prevent build ups?

TT: Products will only create build-up if they contain inferior ingredients. Build-up occurs from large molecule silicones – they give the impression of “healthy looking hair” whereas what you are really trying to achieve is “healthy, reconstructed hair”. A good treatment that is suited for your hair type, and of course that works, doesn’t need to be changed

Q. Can conditioning treatments make your hair greasy?

TT: Using the wrong or inappropriate treatment could leave you looking like a sea-bird after an oil tanker spill – my Damage Reconstruction Range will ensure this won’t happen!
