More details of the Yaris-inspired Toyota Hybrid-R revealed ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show
Toyota has released an official sketch and more details on its Hybrid-R concept ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It’s based on the Yaris, and combines a 1.6-litre GRE (Global Race Engine) with two electric motors for a total of more than 400bhp. The motors drive the rear wheels and the engine turns the fronts to make the Hybrid-R all-wheel drive.
It will be the first road car from Toyota to feature any sort of hybrid technology from their Le Mans racer. Powering the electric motors is a super-capacitor, which harvests energy lost under braking. Toyota will showcase its fuel cell tech at the event, ahead of a 2015 production car.
A gloomy preview image of the Toyota concept was released a couple of days ago, teasing a few styling details such as the Yaris-inspired front end. This new sketch shows the Hybrid-R in more detail, giving a taste of what to expect when it becomes one of the must-see cars at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
